It’s no coincidence that I’m going to lay out the importance and benefits of blogging for a business through writing a blog post of my very own. Before we get started though, let’s first define a blog. A blog is a regularly updated website or webpage that is typically written in an informal or conversational style. Now, what does having a blog on your website do for your business? Let’s jump into some of the key benefits of writing and regularly posting new content on your website.
Become a Trusted Expert in Your Industry
The content you choose to write should relate to your brand/business in some way, making it relevant to your potential customer base. The more content you can generate around topics that are important to your audience, the more they will trust your knowledge, ability, and have confidence in your brand.

Increase Traffic to Your Website
Generating new content on your website opens the opportunity for users to either revisit your website or visit your website for the first time. This will, in turn, increase the potential for website traffic to turn into leads or even sales. Providing fresh, relevant content to both new and existing customers is extremely important for keeping them engaged with your business, and if you can keep them coming back to your website you are more likely to hold onto them as a customer.
Generate New Leads
With more users visiting your website and learning more about what you have to offer, the potential for more leads and/or sales increases. Maintaining a blog provides the unique opportunity to showcase your knowledge and solutions for a specific topic or product. The audience consuming this content will have already shown some interest in either your brand or your product/service, making them more likely to purchase from you or reach out for more information.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is a very important piece of the digital marketing puzzle. You know what you have to offer, but you need to be able to show up in searches when consumers are researching products or services that you offer. The way you do this is by having relevant content on your website that matches the keywords that these consumers are looking for. See where I’m going with this?
Adding more content to your website on a regular basis will help get these relevant keywords on your site. A good factor to consider when thinking about what content you should be adding is what users are searching for, and creating content that answers their questions. Now there are more opportunities for search engines such as Google to find your website relevant to searchers and rank your web pages at the top of the search results when you deliver valuable content that matches the information they seek.
Brand Personality
Blogs are a great platform to let your personality shine through. Normal content on a website is usually a little more structured and formal, whereas the content on your blog, as mentioned before, can be more conversational. This is an opportunity to connect with your audience and provide a more personalized experience when interacting with your brand.
Blog Tips
Create a Strong Strategy
Think about who is your audience, what are the goals you want to reach through writing blogs, how frequently you will be updating your blog, what topics you will be writing about, and how you will promote this content. Having a strong plan in place will ensure consistency and set a solid foundation for your blog.
Post Content Consistently/Regularly.
If you have a consistent schedule for when you post, customers will know when to expect new content from you and will continue visiting your website for their needs. If you don’t post often, or post content sporadically, customers might not find your website or even your brand as valuable or reliable.
Create Useful Content that Adds Value to Your Customers.
First, write about what you know. If you are a cake bakery, it wouldn’t make much sense to write about how to change a tire, right? So, stick to topics that you are an “expert” in, and that your customer base will trust coming from your business. Second, have a purpose for what you are writing. Can you help these readers in some way, or answer a question they may have? You don’t want them to get to the end of your post and wonder what they just wasted 5 minutes of their life reading.
Create Content Based on SEO Needs.
What are customers searching for? If there is a specific keyword that customers are searching that you might not be showing up for in search engine results, create content around it. This will allow customers to visit your site to get their questions answered or find what they are searching for. This is a simple and very effective strategy for coming up with content ideas.
