Web designers want every client’s website design experience to be outstanding! Our goal is to create a beautiful website that meets your goals, and we want to continue working with you after the launch. To do that, we find that setting expectations for our web design project can be helpful.
So whether you’re working with a website designer to refresh an existing website or launch a new one, here are 5 things your website designer wants you to know…
1 – Your Website Isn’t Only About You
Sure, your website visitors want to know who you and what makes you tick are – but they’re more interested in how you will solve their problems.
As your web designer, it is our job to help you think through what your user wants to see on your website and create the best experience for him or her. That means company accolades or staff information may take a back seat to content that will better-engage visitors.
2 – We Might (Respectfully) Disagree With You
There will be times during the design process that we may respectfully disagree with your requests – that’s why you hired us, after all!
Based on our knowledge of industry best practices and the latest trends in website design we will share alternatives and solutions to meet your goals.
Want a cat on a piece of avocado toast to shoot across the homepage while meowing to the tune of “Welcome to the Jungle?” Probably not the best idea as it will interrupt your user’s mission when they visit your website. Instead, we might find a different place for a video or gif of your avocado-toast-riding cat so your visitors can enjoy that experience when they’re ready for it.
3 – Additional Requests Could Cost More
While we do our best to put together a comprehensive proposal before we start working on your website, other requirements sometimes pop up once we start working together.
Maybe once you see the design you realize you needed to include a blog, or want some custom animation. We always do our best to incorporate your requests within budget, but sometimes additional requests that are time-consuming require an additional cost. We’ll share that information with you before we begin any work on extra features so you can decide how to proceed.
4 – We Love Examples!
We may have different interpretations of what “modern” means, or maybe we envision “clean” in different ways.
Showing us some examples of websites you love, or sites that have features you find inspiring, is a great way for us to get on the same page (pun intended!) for website design. It helps us get a better understanding of your vision, and create a comprehensive proposal.
It’s worth noting that we consider these examples for inspiration, not duplication. We don’t want to give you a website that looks like someone else’s, so we look to your examples to be a starting point for your own, unique design.
5 – Content is King
Your successful website depends on valuable content. If you are launching a new site, that means lots of new information will need to be written. And if you’re refreshing an old site with minimal copy, that content will need beefed up. While we can create a beautifully-functioning website for you, we need engaging content to reach your goals.
It’s best to come to the project with ideas of how you want to tackle content. We can make recommendations to you for what is needed for the site, and we can even provide content services if you’re not sure where to start!
Bottom line: we want you to be happy, and we want to give you a site that performs. Keeping these 5 things in mind when we begin a project will help us get there!
